Farms and Fauna

Hello and welcome to Farms and Fauna, a blog devoted to centralizing information for farmers and forward minded citizens who are interested in finding sustainable practices that support profitable farming strategies while employing land use techniques that provide suitable habitat for wildlife. Ideally, it is our goal to spread ideas that can ultimately maximize the preservation of both our natural and cultural heritage in cost effective manners.

Farms and Fauna is a public space run by students of the Rubenstein school. The Rubenstein School of Natural Resources and the Environment is a constituent of the University of Vermont and constantly strives to increase the quality of life of Vermont citizens. The students running this blog have no personal biases beyond their love for the natural world. What we are looking to promote is the idea of an ecologically conscious farm, at scales that are ecologically sound.

We are aimed at educating farmers, or anyone with a big enough backyard, of the means by which other farmers have increased diversity on their land. We briefly examined the general effects that small scale farms have on the environment however our primary focus was in the interest of the promotion of wildlife. Please feel free to read through the article and document reviews that we have posted, but also pay particular attention to our case studies of farms that are years ahead of the rest. We hope that you find our blog informative and interesting! Please use the tabs on the top of the page to explore our research. Enjoy!
